A revolution for the next round of ICANN: 500 New TLDs generated by AI!

What if AI decided the future domain name extensions? A French startup plans to register 500 new gTLDs generated by artificial intelligence. Discover in this article a project that could revolutionise the domain name industry.

During the NDDCamp Alsace on 21st March, we had the pleasure of meeting Julien, the founder of a company we will rename DomAITech for confidentiality reasons: an innovative French startup that is about to revolutionise the domain name industry with artificial intelligence.

What is DomAITech’s project? To submit the candidature of 500 new gTLDs during the next ICANN round, all entirely generated by advanced AI. Let us explain.

Extensions generated by a new-generation algorithm

Unlike the traditional approach of reflection and extensive strategic analysis for proposing a new extension, DomAITech’s AI automates the research phase by analysing web trends and user needs to propose original and unique extensions.

Julien, the founder, explains: “Our artificial intelligence model doesn’t just generate extensions randomly! By analysing billions of data points from search trends, social media, and web developments, our algorithm can accurately identify both current and future user needs. We are confident that it will be able to anticipate the extensions that will truly succeed.”

Among the extensions it has already generated, here are some must-haves:

.selfie: With more than 92 million selfies published every day on social media, this TLD meets a growing need among influencers and content creators.
.quantum: The boom in quantum technologies and the excitement around cutting-edge physics make this TLD a strategic choice for researchers and startups in the sector.
.oops: The AI detected a strong popularity of “fails” videos and articles about online mishaps. This extension will be perfect for humorous platforms and brands focused on self-derision.
.404: Analysis of browsing logs shows that 404 error pages are among the most viewed on the internet. This TLD, designed for websites under construction, could become a staple of modern web culture.

Thanks to these proposals based on concrete trends, the DomAITech team is confident that these new extensions will quickly find their audience.

Crowdfunding and exclusive rewards for contributors

The financial goal is ambitious: Having already invested over €400,000 of its own funds in developing its algorithm, DomAITech is aiming for a total budget of €150 million to cover ICANN application fees, technical infrastructure, and the promotion of the new extensions.
Another key aspect of the project, and not the least, is its funding model: it will rely entirely on crowdfunding. Instead of depending on traditional investment channels, DomAITech has chosen to directly involve those most concerned: internet users and companies interested in these new extensions. According to Julien, “Crowdfunding will democratise domain extensions: everyone will be able to vote for their favourite extensions and invest in the one that resonates with them the most.”

What’s more, to encourage contributions, DomAITech will offer several levels of rewards depending on the amount contributed:

    • €10: A digital NFT badge, “Naming Pioneer”, on the project’s official website.
    • €50: A free pre-reservation of a domain name under a funded extension.
    • €250: VIP behind-the-scenes access to the project with exclusive updates
    • €1,000: The opportunity to propose a custom extension and have it reviewed by the AI.
    • €10,000: Brand protection across all DomAITech extensions for three years.

DomAITech plans to submit its applications in April 2026 during the next ICANN round. With such ambition and a disruptive approach, this startup could well be a game-changer in the domain name industry!
